By 2060, more than 40 percent of Christians will live in sub-Saharan Africa, up from 26 percent in 2015, according to this analysis of demographic data by
Pew Research Center. Sub-Saharan Africa is also home to a growing share of the world’s Muslims. Between 2015 and 2060, the Muslim population of the region will likely increase from 16 percent to 27 percent. As with Christianity, Muslim growth in sub-Saharan Africa primarily is driven by high fertility and the young age profile of the population.
