Four Ways to Handle Multicultural Differences in a Team

Because of cultural differences, working in multinational teams requires flexibility. It is difficult for a team to cooperate as a unit without spending time understanding one another and their differences. In this article for INSEAD Knowledge, Nirmalya Kumar suggests four ways to improve teamwork in multi-cultural teams: See differences as a source of curiosity rather than contempt; develop organisational norms that supersede cultural differences; expect assumptions to be challenged; and accept some inefficiency as both inevitable and functional.
