A total of 943 legal gender-based disparities still inhibit women’s economic opportunity worldwide. In this article for the Council on Foreign Relations, Gayle Tzemach and Rachel Vogelstein highlight the value of promoting women’s economic inclusion, and identify the legal, structural and cultural barriers that impede their fiscal involvement. To boost global GDP and capitalize on women’s economic potential, the call for greater efforts to eliminate the legal, structural, and cultural barriers to women’s economic participation by the UN and on the U.S. foreign policy agenda.
