International Jobs Report: Edition 2017
In 2016, the global unemployment rate increased as falling unemployment in advanced economies was outweighed by sharp increases in unemployment in many emerging markets, particularly in Latin America and Caribbean, and in fuel-exporting countries. Prakash Loungani of the
OCP Policy Center, Paris, expects the global unemployment rate to remain unchanged in 2017 at about 5.7 percent – some 175 million - as unemployment rates in advanced economies continue to decline and the situation in some emerging markets improves. Venezuela’s unemployment rate is expected to increase by four percentage points, with smaller increases in Algeria, Brazil, South Africa and Turkey.
