While a coherent US policy towards the United Nations has yet to emerge, there is uncertainty about the scope of US support to the world organisation. In this report for the European Union Institute for Security Studies, Bart Szewczyk suggests that over time, less leadership but a founding member and traditional anchor like the US will lead to instability in a deteriorating strategic context. The UN needs stronger engagement by the US and other members in active diplomacy and resource contributions, if it is to be successful,.
