Sharing core norms and values
Oct 26, 2017 | Pew Research Center.

More than 80 countries favour a specific religion, either as an officially endorsed religion or by affording one religion preferential treatment over others, according to this analysis of data on 199 countries and territories by the Pew Research Center. Islam is the most faith-endorsed by most governments, with 27 countries enshrining Islam as their state religion. By comparison, just 13 countries designate Christianity or a particular Christian denomination as their state religion. But an additional 40 governments unofficially favour a particular religion, and in most cases this is a branch of Christianity.
