500 Years after the Reformation - Five Facts about Protestants around the World

Protestant Christianity looks very different today to its inception five centuries ago. In Western Europe, the home of the Protestant Reformation, Protestants and Catholics are now religiously more similar than different. In this paper, the Pew Research Center looks at some key facts about Protestants around the world. It finds that in Germany, the epicenter of the Reformation, just seven percent of Protestants say they attend church weekly. Among European Catholics, Mass attendance is relatively infrequent. Meanwhile, in Latin America, where nearly 40 percent of the world’s Catholics live, Protestant populations have risen sharply.
