The Role of University Campuses in reconnecting Humans to the Biosphere

Sharing core norms and values
Mar 06, 2018 | MDPI, Johan Colding, Stephan Barthel

Given their pivotal role in fostering coming generations, university campuses represent a unique socio-cultural setting for sustainable development in practice. In this paper by MDPI, Johan Colding and Stephan Barthel of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences explore the potential for integrating university campuses in a global sustainability agenda promoting reconnection of urban residents to the biosphere. This requires a socio-cultural transition that allows universities and colleges to reconnect to the biosphere, and become active stewards of the Earth System. Their report provides policy recommendations to enable higher educational institutions to advance sustainable management of the biosphere.
