Culture Crisis and Cultural Self-confidence
Cultural crisis is often inevitable as countries modernise, and usually contributes to integration and regeneration. Qiao Zhao-hong of the
Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences suggests in the article for
Cultural and Religious Studies that when Western learning spread to the East, tradition turned to modernistion. Similarly, as Eastern learning spreads to the West, traditional approaches will change. He calls for a new
cultural value system that meets the needs of the future society. In an era of reconstruction of the world order, China needs a globalised cultural narrative to rebuild its position – and that of Asia – in the global cultural context.
