The State of Social Safety Nets 2018

Reducing poverty and improving equity
Apr 25, 2018 | World Bank

This publication by the World Bank book documents the main safety net programmes around the world and their use to alleviate poverty and build shared prosperity. Among the very poor who received safety net benefits, 36 percent escaped extreme poverty, providing evidence that social safety net programmes are making a substantial impact in the global fight against poverty. The report features two special themes - social assistance and aging - focusing on the role of old-age social pensions and adaptive social protection, to clarify what makes SSN systems and programs adaptive to shocks.
