The Outermost Regions: Challenges and Prospects
The nine states that constitute the
Outermost Regions (ORs) - although geographically distant from continental Europe - deserve close attention from the EU because of climate change, sustainable development, transport networks, and digital accessibility. This report by the
Egmont Institute outlines how the EU helps the ORs to develop themselves and the initiatives that encourage EU engagement. Antoine Masquelin, Paul Hammoud, and Tristan Thomas explore the characteristics of the ORs in comparison to the continental European States, and compare the legal statute of the ORs with twenty overseas countries and territories (OCTs) that are attached to Member States, but not considered EU stakeholders.
