Inclusive Market System Development

Reducing poverty and improving equity
Jul 04, 2018 | Austrian Development Agency

This report by the Austrian Development Agency defines inclusive market systems as those that involve and benefit a range of actors including poor and marginalised groups who are often exploited by traditional market systems. It suggests that only inclusive markets can reduce poverty by enabling all segments to benefit from increased economic activity. Their development can be achieved by various methods. The report provides an illustrative example of the Making Markets Work for the Poor (M4P) approach which supports market systems whose enhanced efficiency and sustainability lead to improvements of income and a reduction of poverty.
