Adolescence and Gender Norms

Sharing core norms and values
Posted Jul 05, 2018 | Gender and Adolescence: Global Evidence

While the risks and vulnerabilities that adolescent girls face due to gender norms have grown over the last decade, efforts to transform discriminatory gender norms in specific contexts are nascent. In this report, Gender and Adolescence: Global Evidence (GAGE) presents the results of a research program into the lives of 18,000 adolescent girls and boys (10–19 years) in six countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and explores policies and programmes that shift harmful gender norms. The briefing addresses strategies to support gender norm change by empowering girls, engaging with boys and men, supporting families, promoting community norm change, and strengthening school systems, and services and systems for adolescents.
