EU-China Investments: Europe’s Strategic Interest

The growing dispute between the US and China has moved Europe and China closer together. However, rising Chinese investments in Europe and the scale of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) are causing uncertainty in Europe and elsewhere. On both issues, Europe and China must seek common ground and avoid confrontation. Writing for the Clingendael Spectator, Amanda Rohde suggests that the EU-China Comprehensive Agreement on Investment offers an opportunity for a balanced approach, as it allows the EU to improve market access in China and to push for a level playing field for European investors.
