Foresight Africa: Top Priorities for the Continent in 2019

Delivering sustainable economic growth
Jan 17, 2019 | Africa Growth Initiative, Brookings

Africa offers new opportunities for trade and investment and is drawing interest from a diverse group of external partners. In this report by the Africa Growth Initiative at Brookings, authors suggest that democracy is consolidating, although the prevalence of tensions and, in some countries, violence, pose constraints. The authors offer strategies for countries to secure large-scale employment opportunities for youth to realise the demographic dividend; argue for institutional changes and new approaches to eliminate poverty and fragility; recommend strategies for the  business landscape; and assess the potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the implications of the new free trade agreement.
