Mapping Just Transition(s) to a Low-Carbon World

Just Transition (JT) - the idea that justice and equity must be made integral to the transition towards a low-carbon world - is coming to counter the idea that environmental protection and the protection of jobs are incompatible. This is broadening the debate on the kinds of jobs and societies envisioned for the future. This report, by the UN Research Institute for Social Development explains the different understandings, narratives and framings of JT that underpin the concept’s growing popularity. Six country case studies provide insights into how JT is being mobilized to promote transformative change and climate justice.
