Continental Drifts in a Multi-polar world - Challenges for Africa-Europe Relations in 2019

Improving global governance
Jan 21, 2019 | European Center for Development Policy, Alexei Jones, Lidet Tadesse, Philomena Apiko

The African Union (AU) is exploring new partnerships and taking unprecedented steps towards continental integration, in economics, politics and institutions. Meanwhile, the European Union (EU) is confronting a rather different dynamic - one that divides its membership on the same themes. Despite this, there is a window of opportunity to revamp the EU-Africa partnership in 2019. In this Challenges Paper by the European Center for Development Policy, Alexei Jones, Lidet Tadesse, and Philomena Apiko examine some elements and look ahead at what to expect in 2019.  They discuss converging and diverging interests across member states, between member states and between the EU and the AU, as well as continentally.
