Six Proposals for Future Policies towards Circular Economy and Society

Delivering sustainable economic growth

It is estimated that extraction and consumption of natural resources will double by 2060 compared to 2011 levels. To achieve the SDGs within planetary boundaries, it is crucial to control the consumption of natural resources, and to transition to “circular economy and society”. This policy brief by T20 Japan 2019 outlines six proposals to mainstream circular economy and society as a driving force towards global sustainability. These relate to: national priority issues; local-level governance of polices for a circular economy and society; international governance; and the development of new measurements in the era of SDGs and planetary boundaries.
