Climate Change and Land
This special report by
the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change addresses greenhouse gas (GHG) fluxes in land-based ecosystems, land use and sustainable land management in relation to climate change adaptation and mitigation, desertification, land degradation and food security. It notes that agriculture, forestry and other land use activities accounted for around 13 percent of CO2, 44 percent of methane (CH4), and 82 percent of nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from human activities globally during 2007-2016, representing 23 percent of total net anthropogenic emissions of GHGs. In providing an updated assessment of the current state of knowledge, it strives for coherence and complementarity with recent reports by other agencies.
