ASEAN Youth Technology, Skills and the Future of Work
The emergence of new technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, the internet of things (IoT), precision medicine and autonomous vehicles is bringing about deep and rapid changes in job markets worldwide. Youth in the South-East Asia region (ASEAN) are highly aware of these changes and see a strong need to upgrade and invest in their skills to stay relevant. Based on a survey of 56,000 youths aged 15-35 years old from six ASEAN countries, this partnership report by the
World Economic Forum and
Sea analyses their views on future of work, skills and technology. It finds that ASEAN youths are highly aware of potential disruption and challenges brought by the Fourth Industrial Revolution to the local labour markets, and of the need to constantly upgrade their skills. It also details their skills gap, their future career aspirations and their preferences on skills training.
