‘Our Shared Humanity’ - The Legacy of Kofi Annan

Sharing core norms and values
Posted Oct 29, 2019 | Chatham House, United Nations Association, Robin Niblett

Kofi Annan advocated a vision of multilateral governance, anchored in shared responsibility for global challenges and in the promotion of the rights and dignity of the individual. He placed the importance of freedom and justice alongside reducing poverty and improving health outcomes. Chatham House and the United Nations Association held a conference in June 2019 to explore Kofi Annan’s legacy in the current period of global uncertainty. Reflecting on Annan’s record, Robin Niblett captures lessons learned by the participants from his tenure as UN Secretary-general, and his later work as a mediator and elder statesperson; and offers suggestions to current policymakers and influencers.
