Putting Social Rights and Poverty Reduction at the Heart of EU’s COVID-19 Response

Reducing poverty and improving equity
May 23, 2020 | EAPN

In the context of the Covid-19 epidemic, most European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) members call for an urgent revision of  corporate social responsibilities (CSRs) to prioritize direct financial and other support, to guarantee people’s rights and living standards beyond economic support to companies. In this report, the EAPN sets out progress on poverty and social rights against the Europe 2020 poverty target, the European Pillar of Social Rights (EPSR) and the SDGs. Its COVID19 Priority Recommendations are: Embed poverty/social impact assessment; reinforce quality public health and social care services; prioritize adequate minimum income and social protection; protect employment/prevent precarious work/revalue front-line work; and ensure that the poor are not faced with austerity
