Five Charts on Views of Press Freedom around the World

Support for freedom of the press has risen since 2015 in several nations. Adrian Connaughton shows in these five charts reflecting survey data from Pew Research that (1) majorities across Europe, North America and Latin America see freedom of the press is very important; (2) support for freedom of the press has risen since 2015 in several countries; (3) in many countries, more educated people are more likely to say media freedom is very important than those with less education; (4) Western Europeans with populist views are less likely to say the news media are important to the health of their societies; and (5) most people say news organizations in their country are doing well at reporting on the most important news events.
