The Future of Multilateralism: Towards a Responsible Globalization that Empowers Citizens and Leaves No One Behind

Improving global governance
Jul 21, 2020 | G20 Policy Brief, Homi Kharas, Dennis Snower, Sebastian Strauss

In this G20 Policy Brief, Homi Kharas, Dennis Snower and Sebastian Strauss suggest guidelines for all countries to deliver a more inclusive and sustainable multilateralism. To safeguard the benefits of globalization and ensure it “leaves no one behind”, they recommend the establishment of a G20 Working Group on the Future of Multilateralism tasked with making the global governance architecture fit for the 21st century, with an eye toward accommodating institutional diversity and demands for policy autonomy while ensuring that the multilateral system remains democratically legitimate and politically sustainable.
