et al define the activities and occupations that can be done from home and discuss the staying power of remote work. They analyse the potential for remote work - work that doesn’t require interpersonal interaction or physical presence at a specific worksite - in a range of countries, and find that the potential for remote work is concentrated in a few sectors, often depending on specialised equipment. The Finance and Insurance sector has the highest potential, followed by management, business services, and information technology, all sectors characterized by a high share of workers with college degrees or higher.
