Global Action Urgently Needed to Halt Historic Threats to Poverty Reduction

Reducing poverty and improving equity
Dec 08, 2020 | World Bank

The impact of COVID-19 on poverty reduction will be swift and substantial. In 2020 alone, the pandemic could drastically increase the number of people living in extreme poverty by 88 million to 115 million. In this article, the World Bank suggests that while addressing COVID-19 is crucial, countries must also address the obstacles to poverty reduction.  In addition to addressing these obstacles in the immediate future, there must be relentless focus on promoting inclusive growth, and investing in human capital and productive assets, if countries are to sustain poverty reduction.
