Strengthening Africa's Capacity to Trade

Delivering sustainable economic growth
May 21, 2021 | World Trade Organization

African trade in goods and services amounts to around three per cent of global exports and imports on average. Keeping markets open and fostering a favourable business environment will be critical to spurring renewed investment in Africa and supporting the continent’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. This WTO report looks at the latest trends in African trade, discusses efforts to help African countries strengthen their trading capacity, how the WTO is providing support through the WTO-led Aid for Trade initiative; and describes projects aimed at bringing trade into the mainstream of African national development strategies.
