The Race against Time for Smarter Development

Delivering sustainable economic growth
Aug 30, 2021 | UNESCO

This UNESCO report monitors the development path in science governance that countries have followed over the past five years. It documents the rapid societal transformation underway, which offers new opportunities for social and economic experimentation but risks exacerbating social inequalities unless safeguards are put in place. It highlights the importance of scientific evidence and brokerage institutions, to link scientists with policymakers and communities to ensure that key decisions are underpinned by accurate information and intelligence. The report demonstrates the growing importance of science, technology, and innovation, and concludes that countries must invest more in research and innovation, to succeed in dual digital and green transitions.
