The Future of the International System
Just as cooperative patterns in global trade are in flux, the role of new digitally networked technologies has shifted power in the international system. This compilation of essays by the
Center for Strategic and International Studies explores how three critical issues - the future of global trade and inequality, cyber and emerging technologies, and climate change - will shape the future international system. The authors were tasked to set out what they believed the future nature of competition and conflict would be in their respective topics and the role and limitations of the nation state in addressing those challenges. They considered who will hold power in this new international system; and who might lose status; and the consequences of the failure or resilience of national governments to address these global challenges.
