Raising Climate Ambition at COP26 - A Positive Outcome at COP26 is crucial to putting the World on a Safer Path.

Addressing vulnerability and promoting security
Oct 11, 2021 | Chatham House, Anna Åberg, Antony Froggatt, Rebecca Peters

National emission reduction targets submitted in 2015 were not ambitious enough to keep the rise in the global average temperature to ‘well below’ 2°C, let alone to 1.5°C. Anna Åberg, Antony Froggatt and Rebecca Peters argue in this Chatham House paper that substantial progress is needed to enable a positive outcome of the COP26 meeting in Glasgow in three main areas: Raising the ambition of countries nationally determined contributions (NDCs); providing support for climate-vulnerable developing countries; and agreeing on the remaining details of the ‘Paris Rulebook’.
