Disrupting Adultism in the Climate Change Conversation

Sharing core norms and values
Posted Nov 11, 2021 | Rejuvenate

A major barrier to dismantling adultism is the assumption that the power that adults exercise over children is always legitimate and justified, an assumption like those mobilised to justify other social inequalities and oppressions, including those of race, gender, disability, class, and sexuality. The Rejuvenate team argue in this article that the political agency of children and youth is beginning to be recognised. This shift is already underway in gender and race politics, and there is a growing will to interrogate the social norms that have long underpinned social structures. The team believes that the lessons learned will ultimately lead towards a radical shift in social hierarchies.
