Transforming Education for Holistic Student Development - Learning from Education System (re)building around the World

Sharing core norms and values
Sep 19, 2022 | Brookings Institution

In anticipation of the UN Transforming Education Summit in September 2022, this Brookings Institution report explores ways to build and rebuild education systems to support holistic student development. Amanda Datnow, Vicki Park, Donald  Peurach, and James Spillane focus on the journeys of seven education systems – situated in high-, middle-, and low-middle-income countries with democratic tradition – seeking to make the whole child the centre of their work. The report addresses two questions of universal concern: means to build and rebuild academically-focused education systems as humanistic education systems that also support the social, emotional, moral, and civic development of students; and ways to draw a diverse global audience into productive, evidence-informed conversations about complex and contentious issues of collective interest.
