People in advanced economies have mixed feelings about the impact of social media on political life, according to this Pew Research survey. Majorities in 11 emerging and developing economies surveyed, indicate that social media has both positive and negative sides. Across the 19 advanced economies, a median of 57 percent say social media has been a good thing for democracy in their country. Nearly half or more say this in almost every country, with the sentiment being most common in Singapore, where 76 percent share this view. However, in the Netherlands and France, only about four-in-ten agree and in the United States, only around a third think social media is positive for democracy, the smallest share among all 19 countries surveyed.
