Deracializing, Rehabilitating, and Reintegrating Violent Extremists

Addressing vulnerability and promoting security
Dec 04, 2017 | United States Institute of Peace, Raafia Raees Khan, Feriha Peracha,

This Brief by the United States Institute of Peace discusses lessons learned from rehabilitation and reintegration programming in Pakistan, focusing on the importance of continued psychosocial support after reintegration of former detainees. According to Raafia Raees Khan and Feriha Peracha, reactivation is common among former terrorist group members who have undergone deradicalisation and reintegration programmes. They look at ways to improve these programmes and emphasise the need to provide psychosocial support; promote skill building before reintegration; and monitor carefully after reintegration.
