Initiatives: Improving global governance

On this page you will see initiatives and programmes that seek to improve the quality of global governance and our global institutions.

All the challenges that we face in managing the global commons – the oceans, the great tropical forests, a wide range of ecosystem services, and the atmosphere on which we depend for survival – can only be addressed successfully if we cooperate across boundaries both in using and preserving them. Likewise in the military and economic spheres, collective action is a necessary counterweight to the pursuit of national objectives.

The initiatives reflected here, and others of which you may be aware, aim to improve the structures and systems we employ for global, and other forms of transnational, governance.
