Towards a Global International Relations?

Sharing core norms and values
Dec 14, 2017 | E-International Relations, Amitav Acharyia

The hegemonic status of Western scholars, publications and institutions in international relations (IR) is often ascribed to a belief that the Western IR theory offers the right answers to the problems of the day. In this article for E-International Relations, Amitav Acharyia calls for greater participation from scholars from the Global South in the IR discourse and for broadening of the way IR is taught and written in the West. A global IR perspective on IR theory should not displace existing theories, but challenge them to broaden their horizons and acknowledge the place and role of the non-Western world.
