In the Central African region the downturn in global commodity prices is exacerbating a fragile fiscal situation. Moreover, rapid population growth sharpens the challenges of poor service delivery, while uncertainty around political transitions contributes to a pessimistic outlook. This report by Fonteh Akum and Zachary Donnenfeld for the Institute for Security Studies exlores the trajectory of the region; analyses political and socioeconomic patterns and development trends to 2040 and places these in the context of member states of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community.
