Greening with Jobs - World Employment and Social Outlook 2018

Delivering sustainable economic growth
Jun 13, 2018 | ILO

The transition to a green economy will cause job losses as carbon- and resource-intensive industries are scaled down, but these will be more than offset by new job opportunities. This report by the ILO shows that there is scope for policies to advance environmental sustainability, and for environmental policies to ensure decent work. A net increase of approximately 18 million jobs could result from the adoption of sustainable practices, including changes in the energy mix, projected growth in the use of electric vehicles, and increases in energy efficiency in buildings. A coherent legal framework and the timeous provision of skills will help workers transition to sectors and growth in employment.
