2018 The State of Food and Agriculture - Migration, Agriculture and Rural Development

More international migrants have moved between developing countries (38 percent of all international migrants) than from a developing to a developed country (35 percent). The key focus of this annual report of the FAO is rural migration, which constitutes a considerable portion of both internal and international migration flows. It describes different migration flows and highlights how - despite the challenges they present - they are crucial to economic, social and human development. In particular, the report shows how migration can be beneficial to rural development and the agriculture sector of both sending and host countries, and identifies key policy areas.
