A Western mindset that pervade curation and scholarship impedes demystification of museums and other cultural institutions. In this article for the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting, David Skorton calls for a more diverse workplace by curating exhibitions that tell the forgotten stories of history’s hidden figures, and by encouraging a broader variety of perspectives from curators, researchers, scholars and educators. Museums should periodically revisit their collections and present them in a way that communicates effectively to a culturally diverse audience.
