Security and Defence Policy: An Agenda for 2019-2024

Addressing vulnerability and promoting security
Mar 24, 2019 | Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies, Niklas Novaky

One of the main concerns that voters are likely to have in their minds when casting their ballots in the forthcoming European elections, is security. Niklas Novaky of the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies suggests that the EU needs an ambitious agenda in the area of security and defence for 2019-2024.  This should be divided into four categories: The response to cyber threats and AI-related challenges; developing the EU’s institutional structures; improving its political readiness to address crises in its neighbourhood; and strengthening the Union’s partnerships with third-countries.
