No Time to Waste: Tackling the Plastic Pollution Crisis Before it is Too Late
In this report,
Tearfund 2019 describes the environmental destruction, sickness, mortality, and damage to livelihoods caused by the plastic pollution crisis. Current trajectories point to increased illness and rising human and animal deaths, further harm to livelihoods and greater destruction of the environment. The report outlines the roles and responsibilities of four groups that are key to tackling the plastic pollution crisis: Multinational consumer goods companies who drive the production of single-use plastic packaging but do little to manage the waste they create; developed country governments who have enabled and incentivised a ‘throwaway’ culture; developing country governments whose citizens are most severely impacted by the crisis; and citizens in developed countries who can demand change.
