Many Across the Globe Are Dissatisfied with how Democracy Is Working
This
Pew Research Center survey illustrates that ideas at the core of liberal democracy remain popular among global publics, while the commitment to democracy can be weak. Several factors contribute to this, including perceptions about how well democracy is working. Views on the performance of democratic systems are negative in many nations. Across 27 countries polled, a median of 51 percent are dissatisfied with how democracy is working in their country; while 45 percent are satisfied. The Asia-Pacific region is largely satisfied with democracy; only in Japan does a majority express dissatisfaction. In six of the 10 European countries surveyed, half or more respondents say they are dissatisfied with how democracy is applied.
