Reviving the Liberal World Order: An American Challenge

Addressing vulnerability and promoting security
Nov 22, 2020 | RealClearDefense, Michael Miklaucic

Economic, racial, and other educational inequalities have cast doubt on the inherent benefits of the liberal global order. In his article for RealClearDefense, Michael Miklaucic suggests that the United States' can still reverse its decline. The next US administration should do three things to restore and resuscitate the liberal world order from which it and so many others have profited: Revive the atrophied American alliance and partner network; rebuild a global coalition for democracy and liberal governance through innovative collaboration; and restore economic vibrancy through trade. The new administration should also resume a leading role in the WTO, rejoin the Trans-Pacific Partnership, revive the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, and explore free trade agreements with key partners like India.
